Tim Hallas Profile
Tim Hallas completed his undergraduate studies in Creative Music Sound Technology and Music at what was APU, Cambridge. He specialised in experimental composition and uses of synthesis studying with Julio d’Escrivàn. He then undertook further studies in Composition with Technology at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield. His composition tutor here was Rob Godman and he gained his MSc in 2007. He is currently undertaking research with Cambridge University into “The use of mobile technology to aid sustainability of music learning beyond the classroom”
Tim currently works for Hertfordshire Music Service as their Consultant for Music Technology and the Head of Broxbourne, Hertford & Ware Music Centre. He works regularly with schools providing advice on equipment installation, curriculum content and guest lectures. He teaches weekly in a number of Hertfordshire schools delivering lessons from KS2 up to A-level.
Tim also works as freelance author and writes a regular column in Music Tech magazine (available in all good WHSmith’s!) and is the Digital Learning Editor for Music Education UK/Asia. He has recently written papers on the Definition of Music Technology within Education and a Digital Learning Strategy for Sound Hub, Kent. He is currently researching his first book on the practical use of technology in music education.
Tim has written music for films including MAN by Mark Bousfield shown at the London Film Festival. He enjoys writing electronic music and has released a number of albums of his works and is working on a new album with various collaborators including Kym Mazelle (Soul II Soul) and MC Tukka (US3). He is also a guitarist and plays regularly for musicals and with the band, 3rd Sunday.
