Harpenden Choral Society Adult SATB choir
Harpenden Choral Society has been performing to an ever-growing appreciative audience since its beginning in 1975. Whilst we still retain some of our original members, we attract new members yearly and now are over 80 members strong. Under the Musical Direction of award-winning conductor John Andrews, the choir has grown from strength to strength and our repertoire now includes most of the major choral works. Frequently performing with the Kings' Sinfonietta, The Harpenden Choral Society has helped to support the careers of many first class soloists and has become a solid fixture of Harpenden's cultural life, giving five local concerts a year, including our annual Carol Concert.
In recent years the choir has also performed in venues away from Harpenden, including Wells, Bury St Edmunds, Windsor, Stratford-upon-Avon, and, most recently, in Dorchester-on-Thames for a rare performance of Sullivan's 'The Golden Legend as part of The English Music Festival. We have toured in Belgium and Normandy, and have recorded a broadcast for the BBC World Service as part of its series ‘In Praise of God’.
We rehearse on Tuesdays at 8pm in the United Reformed Church Hall, Vaughan Road, and applications for membership are always welcome.
