The National Centre for Early Music are seeking an Operations Manager to lead the delivery of the NCEM’s diverse programme of concerts, community activities, festivals, and commercial operations, as well as the day to day management of the NCEM office & building. They are looking for candidates with excellent and relevant artistic experience, who are dynamic and collaborative team players.

The NCEM is led by the Director Delma Tomlin MBE. The Operations Manager reports to the Director of Finance and Operations, and is supported by the NCEM Events Co-ordinator, working alongside the Box Office Manager and Music Competition Administrator.

The NCEM is the flagship for early music in England, based in a medieval converted church in the heart of York since 2000. They are a significant venue for music and creative learning, providing experiences and opportunities of the highest quality to an ever widening and diversified community. The organisation is the national advocate of early music in England, working to promote public understanding and enjoyment of early music through historically informed performances, annual festivals (The York Early Music Festival, Beverley and East Riding Early Music Festival and the York Early Music Christmas Festival) and digital technology, with a thriving worldwide online audience.

The NCEM has partnerships with festivals and conservatoires across Europe designed to support emerging early music ensembles and boasts two major competitions which encourage talented young composers and gifted early music specialists - the NCEM Young Composers Award and the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition. These major events attract national and international interest and are supported by BBC Radio 3 and some of the finest musicians in the world.

Key Responsibilities of the role:
To work with the NCEM Director to successfully deliver the NCEM’s artistic programme
To ensure that the NCEM delivers excellent customer service across the artistic & commercial activities of the organisation, which will involve recruiting, training & organising the NCEM’s teams
To ensure the NCEM’s Grade-1 listed building, grounds & equipment are maintained to a very high standard
To manage the continued development of the NCEM’s commercial operation
To develop and manage the NCEM’s health & safety systems ensuring that the organisation is compliant with relevant workplace health & safety legislation (both at the NCEM and at external venues)
To enable the smooth day to day operation of the NCEM office.
