Mokuhanga Printing Effects – Intermediate Level - November

We are delighted to welcome back artist Lucy May Schofield to WYPW to teach this follow-on course for those familiar with Japanese water-based woodblock printing, or ‘Mokuhanga’. This course is intended for those who want to develop their skills in this particular technique and will focus primarily on the printing, rather than the carving, of blocks. Learners are encouraged to bring their own carved blocks with them to work with and will be guided and refreshed on various techniques including paper damping, inking and printing effects, including ‘bokashi’, (gradation), techniques, with the aim of getting better quality and more consistent prints from your blocks. There will be lots of opportunity to take advantage of Lucy’s wealth of knowledge of this process, and iron out any issues you may have been while practicing at home.
