Creative Journeys in the Summer Yurt - Torre Abbey

Creative Journeys in the Summer Yurt - Torre Abbey

Torbay Council have enlisted the support of the Torbay Play Forum and the Torbay Childminders to encourage children and young people to come along to their flagship summer exhibition. This is called TAMED and features work by Paul Caldwell, Damien Hirst, Heather Jansch, Richard Long, Mike Nelson and Mariele Neudecker. The children will be encouraged to experience aspects of the exhibition and respond to it on their own terms!

Towards this aim the Torbay Childminders have funded putting a huge yurt in the grounds of Torre Abbey for two weeks and the Torbay Play Forum has enlisted the support of 18 partner organisations to deliver a programme of creative and playful holiday workshops for children and young people. All workshops are free of charge and open to community groups, play and childcare providers, youth groups and interested individuals. Booking is essential (unless described as open session). Torbay Film Club is a not-for-profit group run by volunteers who want to see the finest independent and world cinema, in Torbay. Films are shown on a monthly basis and are open to members and non-members. We’re keen to make the screenings as sociable as possible, and before and after the films there will be an opportunity to have a drink and a chat about the film, whether you come on your own or with friends. The films we are showing were voted for democratically by our members and the committee, and we’ve made sure in the season there is a mixture of English language and subtitled films, with at least one ‘classic’ (pre-1985) film. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing with you our enthusiasm for films. We are always looking for additional volunteers who have some time to spare and would like to get involved. If you would like to get more involved please drop us an email at admin@torbayfilmclub.co.uk. For more information and to see our forthcoming programme of films (starting in September) please see www.torbayfilmclub.co.uk

By providing the opportunity to watch great films in schools, FILMCLUB allows children and teachers to go on a journey together. Pupils are offered the chance to explore new worlds, new cultures and new languages through 100 years of film; making new friends, growing in confidence and helping school become a more enjoyable place to be – full of possibility.

FILMCLUB – an educational and inspirational after-school activity that is free to state schools – provides children with a curated catalogue of films to watch, discuss and review and an opportunity to interact with and film industry professionals through Q+As, workshops and premieres.
