Torquay Library Local History Group
Torquay Library’s local history have undertaken a number of interesting projects in the past year, including researching Chapel Hill in Torre. Examination of the myths and legends surrounding the enigmatic ruins and the archaeological and historical evidence related to its history led to the production of a new local studies leaflet. A member of the group has also written text for another new leaflet on the Bread Riots that occurred in Torquay in the 19th Century.
Most recently, the group has begun work on an exciting new project investigating the blue Minton signs found in many places around the bay, with the aim of recording their location and securing funding for the repair and conservation of any that are damaged or lost.
Whether you have a long standing or recent interest in Torbay's history and heritage, you'll be welcome to join us at our monthly meetings on the 3rd Saturday of every month, 10.00 - 12.00. Free!
