“With mature and assured playing of this stature, the Fournier Trio surely deserves to be up there with the very best, finely poised at the start of what should prove a highly successful year.” The Herald, Plymouth
The talented young players of the Fournier Piano Trio hail from Taiwan, Korea and Australia. Since forming their trio in 2009, they’ve rapidly established themselves as one of the leading young chamber ensembles in the UK. They were winners of the prestigious 2013 Parkhouse Award at Wigmore Hall, finalists at Hamburg in 2012 and were recipients of 2nd Prize and Audience Prize at the 6th Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in 2011. The trio has made critically-acclaimed debuts at both the Wigmore Hall and the Southbank, and in 2012 embarked on its first European tour, culminating with their debut at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
Their marvellous programme for Dartington brings together the fiery, folk-dance influences in Haydn’s Gypsy Trio and Shostakovich’s extremely popular and highly virtuosic Trio No.2, written during the Second World War. Expanding the piano trio repertoire is very important to the Fourniers, so they’re delighted to be performing Hugh Wood’s deeply lyrical and warmly intense trio, written in 1984.
See the Fournier Trio work with young composers, under the guidance of Hugh Wood, in their concert on 28 August at 5.15pm.
