Caramel Jack
There has always been something of the outsider about Caramel Jack. The songs ring out with tales of the marginalised, lovelorn or crushed. They’ve shared stages with some brilliantly oddball characters too over the years, playing on bills with acts as diverse as; The Pernice Brothers, Regina Spektor, Mark Mulcahy, Clem Snide, Jolie Holland, Peter Bruntnell, Sid Griffin and Danny George Wilson. As well as being known as “the English Lambchop” in reviews in publications like Uncut and The Independent, their uncategorizable sound has drawn some intriguing comparisons with figures from the footnotes of pop history: M. Ward, Barclay James Harvest, Graham Parker & The Rumour. It’s with this background that the Jack return to the live arena. A new album, “Pinkerton in Love” beckons too, with the promise of the Velvets backing the Isley Brothers produced by David Guetta. Steelworks get hot, percussion clangs, steam blasts out of manholes, gumshoes smoke on corners and take notes, femme fatales mysteriously disappear. The songs are imbued with a street fighting spirit straight of the Detroit soul clubs. Otis hovers, in the background Michael Gira’s Swans grind out a terrifying industrial noise. Straight to the point, the Jack are calling this sound “industrial soul”. Unfashionable? - Quite probably. Uncompromising? - Yes. Brilliant? - Certainly.

"It's wonderful stuff - imaginative, intelligent and melodic to boot" **** Q
"The diversity is mind-spinning - Country Folk to Chamber Pop to Burlesque with Hip Hop beats.....a genuine find" **** Uncut
"Sublime" **** Independent On Sunday
