St Albans Museums St Albans Museums

St Albans Museums have four sites for you to enjoy:

Verulamium Museum shows artefacts found right here in St Albans from the Roman town of Verulamium. You can find out about what life was like in Roman Britain, and explore St Albans' Roman roots. There are plenty of opportunities for all ages to have a go at doing coin rubbings, or getting dressed as a Roman citizens. Special activities for children are on offer during school holidays.

The Museum of St Albans takes you on a journey through the long history of St Albans from Roman Times up to the present day. There is loads to do, especially for children: you can take orders in Thrales Tea Rooms or play a proper Victorian game at the (real!) Inn table.

The Clock Tower is a Grade II listed building in the heart of the town, and dates back to the 15th century. As you climb up its many stairs, you can still see the rooms once occupied by the Shop Owner downstairs, and the Clock Keeper above. And then of course there is Gabriel, the original bell, and the wonderful view of St Albans from the top of the tower.

Sopwell Nunnery is the ruins of a Tudor House once owned by Sir Richard Lee. You can still walk amid the impressive walls and imagine life in what was called Lee Hall.
