Arts In Motion - Carnival Arts Workshops

Pure Elegance carnival, a group of children, young people and adults, all from the heart of Kirklees; have a vision to create unique pieces of art which embrace the heritage and culture of African Caribbean carnival history! The Arts in Motion Project will run from May to August and will consist of a group of young people working with an Internationally Recognised Carnival Artist from the UK Centre for carnival Arts in Luton England. We want to take the tradition of the first Caribbean carnival, held in 1833 in Trinidad to celebrate the emancipation of slavery and mix it with the creative arts and working with the artist, hold workshops; using as many different techniques and materials as possible, create vibrant and exquisite costumes to be paraded by those involved in the workshops at the revival of Huddersfield Carnival and showcase our designs at the 50th Leeds Caribbean Carnival 2017.
