New project provides free training and support to the City’s you
Plymouth College of Art is calling on the City’s 16-18 year olds who are currently out of education, employment or training to take part in “For Arts Sake!” - an exciting project that offers free training and support to Plymouth’s young creatives.
The City Centre Company sponsored project focuses on creative and artistic development as a route back into education, employment, or training and will be tailored to meet each individual’s needs whether their goal is to enrol on an apprenticeship scheme or college course, set up their own business or secure employment.
A creative hub at the College’s One Zero Nine shop on Cornwall Street offers a unique space for training, workshops and discussions the project there will offer a whole host of opportunities to get involved in, including community art projects, exhibitions, partnership working with Artists and gallery visits.
Through the “For Art’s Sake!” Arts and Social Enterprise Awards the project will also acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding work of the young people involved.
The College has just appointed Violet Ryder as Project Coordinator; Violet tells us what the project means for the City’s young creatives, “The project is very special as it is truly flexible. It’s based on finding out what the young people want to do and tailoring the programme, as much as possible, to help guide and develop them in those skills. This means “For Art’s Sake!” is especially suitable for young people who may not have fitted into traditional educational routes or academic subjects.
“There is a lot of creative talent in the City and the project will help draw it out by offering new opportunities and free support to people who perhaps wouldn’t otherwise pursue their creative talent; it will enable them to realise their full potential and to aim high. The sky is the limit!”
Clint Jones, Plymouth City Centre Manager said, “We’re really pleased to be able to support this educational arts project within the City Centre. It is always great to see available space in the city centre being used for positive and creative purposes, bringing a different and interesting experience for visitors and shoppers.’’
Whether you would like to build on your portfolio, enhance your employability or develop your key skills this project can help. To enrol on “For Arts Sake!” or to find out more about what the programme can offer you, drop into the College or contact the Business Services Team on 01752 203 434.
