Gardens Always Mean Something Else

Phil Smith will be performing ‘Gardens Always Mean Something Else’, the last of three wandering performances made over the last three years at A la Ronde, the National Trust’s sixteen-sided property near Exmouth. In the first year the performance looked at the apocalyptic ambitions of the women who created the house in the late 18th century, the Parminter cousins, then last year, with Simon Persighetti, the walk was about the scandalous and philosophical effect of the one man to live in the house. This time Phil will address the Gardens, their meaning, their design, their wildlife, trees and plants, and their transformations and how this all relates to the extraordinary lives and ideas that have shaped this eccentric site.

The performances of ‘Gardens Always Mean Something Else’ will be on Sunday 21st June – there will be four, starting times at 10am, 11.30am, 2.30pm and 4pm. Tickets are £4 adults, £2 children. These can be booked by phone at 01395 265514.
