Louise Dixon- Mapscapes

A contemporary art exhibition by Brixham artist Louise Dixon.
Louise has been influenced by aboriginal art which is created, often as a result of wishing to convey a story or a journey. She has found similarities with this to her own interest in maps and aerial views. This resulted in several pieces of work called 'Mapscapes' and ‘Routescapes’ which portray her own journeys.
Other works have attempted to break down the composition to minimal patterns, linear structures, limited colour palette and sequences. Visually they express a notion of movement and energy. Many pieces are focused on texture mark making, form and composition. Louise's work is not solely an interpretation of a physical environment, but is also a representation of a passage through a world, which exists both literally and in the imagination. These pieces are a representation of a rural environment and as decorative as wallpaper of nature
