Make a Leather Sketchbook or Journal
Use straightforward bookbinding and leather working skills to make two unique journals. Great to whip out when you want to make notes, do a sketch, jot down a recipe or for special thoughts. The workshop runs from 10.00 to 4.30. There will a maximum of four people and it is suitable for complete beginners.
Start by folding paper to make the sections for your book and then choose your cover from a range of up-cycled leather. The paper sections are sewn into the leather with a distinctive 'Long-Stitch' which gives the dramatic parallel lines on the spine. Use contrasting thread to exaggerate the lines or tone it down with matching thread.
In the morning you'll master the basic skills by making a simple A6 book. In the afternoon you'll make a larger (A5) journal with space for pens or pencils. There'll be lots of vintage buttons to rummage through or you may decide to close the book with a leather tie
All materials are included. There will be a range of up-cycled leather to choose from with a good choice of browns and black. There'll be some coloured leather but I can't specify what as it depends what I've been able to source.
£70 for the day (10.00 to 4.30)
Paper is provided but if you have a favourite please bring it with you (max size A4). Go home with two stunning up-cycled leather journals or sketchbooks - and the skills to make more.
