Wolcum Yole!

The Lea Singers invite you to join us at St Lawrence Church, Bovingdon, on Saturday 6 December at 7.30pm for our candlelit Advent Concert - Wolcum Yole!

Advent in the Christian calendar is a time of reflection and expectation, as we prepare for the excitement of Christmas. Our Advent concert captures both of these moods. The first half is searching, contemplative and spiritual, built around a settings by Arvo Part of the antiphons best know to many of us in the lovely Advent carol "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel". Between the antiphons, we will sing music spanning nearly 500 years of musical history, from John Tavener to Vaughan Williams. The second half of the concert will break into exuberant, joyful mode with Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols. We are looking forward to working with talented young harpist Tanya Houghton.

St Lawrence Church, Bovingdon, is a special venue for us because one of our basses, Charles Burch, is vicar. Christians have been worshipping on the church site for over 800 years, and we are delighted to be able to help Charles raise funds to help with the restoration of the present building. It is a wonderful place to sing, and to listen to some beautiful Advent music. We hope that you will be able to join us.
