Laura Jury Laura (actress, sword dancer, drama teacher, writer)
I am a 31 year old, a writer, performer and general creative, as well as being a co-founder of the South Devon Players community theatre company, from Brixham in Southwest England (Devon).
I also work as an actress, and have recently developed a dramatic sword dancing act, which I now perform at some local events, and which I am looking to perform in more places.
I am usually available for work, especially relating to teaching, acting, re-enactments, and sword dancing. If you are interested in considering me for anything, please get in touch on englishgirl2009-brixham@yahoo.co.uk
ACTING:
I have been acting and performing since my early teens, where I began in youth theatre at the Acting Factory in Paignton. Since then I have studied drama at college, done a degree (BA Hons 2:1) in film and TV production in Plymouth, performed in projects ranging from local amateur productions to national TV, am a co-founder, ( and highly active in the day to day admin, and performances) of a non profit theatre company, and am involved in other more unusual projects such as bringing fantasy live action roleplay to the stage, and creating a sword dancing performance.
Over the years, as a performer, I have been in projects that have ranged from student and amateur work, to films that have appeared on the BBC and Sky One. I have performed with the following groups and directors:
Black Cat Creations
Brixham Berzerkers
Brixham Buccaneers
Brixham Operatic and Amateur Dramatic Society
Geoff Reynolds (local film maker)
John Fabian (originally a producer on the Onedin Line)
John Tomkins (Torbay based film director)
Kernow Films
Scream Films (on behalf of Sky 1)
South Devon Players
Torbay Acting Factory
Torquay Operatic and Amateur Dramatic Society
Western College Players at The Theatre Royal (Plymouth)
DRAMA AND MEDIA TEACHING
In order to be able to share my love of performance and creativity, I have recently undertaken a PGCE in post compulsory education, specialising in drama, via the University of Exeter, and am continuing my studies there now with a part time a Masters degree in educational research linked to performing arts.
To date, my formal teaching experience has included working in Adult And Community Learning, with disabled adults in Brixham, and teaching a module of a BTEC First Diploma Performing Arts at Exeter College, in September 2009 I shall be working with various access courses at South Devon College working with disaffected 14 - 16 year olds on a communications course, and with other disaffected teenagers at E2E in Torquay, using drama as a method of learning about self presentation, job interview skills, and communication, and doing cover/supply work at Churston Ferrers Grammar School.
Using drama as social intervention is a particular interest of mine.
