LAL!: My Hair with Hannah Lee
Join author, actor and activist Hannah Lee for both an entertaining storytime and an inspiring true story. She’ll be reading her delightful picture book My Hair and talking about why we all need to see faces that look like us in the arts.
Hannah Lee’s My Hair is a fun and tender story about a young girl trying to decide how to style her hair for a party. The pages are filled with an array of options, beautifully illustrated by Allen Fatimaharan, but eventually she settles on her natural Afro hair for the birthday bash.
My birthday’s coming up so soon,
I’ll need new clothes to wear.
But most of all, I need to know,
How shall I style my hair?
Will it be dreads or a twist out? Braids or a high-top fade? Joyous and vibrant, this captures perfectly the excitement of getting ready for a celebration, as well as showcasing a dazzling array of intricate hairstyles.
‘Lively illustrations in warm, rich colours accompany the rhythmic text… A delightful debut collaboration’ BookTrust
Hannah Lee was born in London, where she still lives. She always loved books, but yearned to see more stories that featured children like her – so now she is writing them! My Hair is her debut picture book, which was Highly Commended in the 2017 FAB Prize for writing.
