Kevin Alexander Artist
I have recently relocated to the Highlands of Scotland, but when I was in Torbay I sold my artwork through my own gallery (Chelston Gallery - now closed). In one of my series of pictures I have used various media to explore the beauty in the shapes and shadows of the naked body. Whilst each image captures just a brief moment in time, the emotional responses evoked are timeless. In my acrylic paintings I have reduced the forms into a few layers of graduated colour – the smoothness of the line and the depth of the shadow being essential elements in the design. A different approach has been used in the pen and ink drawings. The style I use is fairly fast in production, but it is the energy in the movement of the pen that generates a softer, gentler final image. And as part of my exploration, I have been working with other media, such as coloured film, coloured card and board.
My more recent series - Geometrics - uses the mountboard cut into regular shapes and positioned to create curves and shapes that have a simple flow to them.
I also have a growing collection of drawings of local scenes which are available as prints (mounted or framed) from the gallery, as are the original paintings and drawings as described above.
Both the pen and ink drawings and acrylic paintings can be done on commission. If you would like to give somebody a special gift, how about a portrait of themselves, you or a favourite person? The Frank Sinatra painting shown here was one such commission. Get in touch if you would like to discuss options.
