Moscow Aquarium
First acrylic arrives at Moscow Aquarium! : Construction continues apace to pour the walls for one of the world's largest aquaria in Moscow, designed by Kay Elliott.
The rush to beat the Russian winter continues. The site poses particular construction issues. Not merely do the construction team need to deal with the cold of a Moscow winter, but much of the site is around 15m below street level. Kay Elliott’s Ocean complex forms the anchor attraction for a larger $300m mixed use development including residential, offices and retail space.
Acrylic panels, some up to a metre thick, will shortly be inserted into the massive walls. The first, smaller, panels of acrylic arrived to site and will shortly be (carefully) built in place.
The complex remains on schedule to open in 2012.
