SPOOKY
Take a walk down sodium lit streets and darkened neural pathways this Halloween as the artist John Vincent paints the everyday with a coat of sinister.
This darkly humorous exhibition has been inspired by revisiting the book ‘Gothic: Transmutations of Horror in Late-twentieth-century Art’ with its ideas of the uncanny, decay and a ‘pre-millennial tension’ as it documented a Gothic ‘thread’ within artists’ work up to the year 1997.
Firmly in the new millennium, the work in this exhibition forms a starting point to explore some of these themes through familiar images and objects such as: sandy beaches, items found in the garden, or re-engaging objects with their original meaning and the persistence of superstition with its double edged nature of absurdity and danger.
The exhibition features painting, video and installation works.
