Beautiful Rope Decor began in 1993. Mike Howarth broadcaster, writer and filmmaker created the sailor’s ropework designs for Julie Toll’s seaside garden winning Best of Show in 1993. After a chance meeting in Hitchin Julie went on make Mike’s BBC nature broadcasts for children with Timmy Mallet.
Mike mixes lessons in making craft items from rope with advanced communications and writing skills for artists. Why and How??
Intrigued by the metaphorical language of ‘toe the line’ and ‘Turks Head’ of learning on board Nelson’s ships applied to his doctorate research into children using interactive technologies. His multi-cam studio is a model for communication in live teaching and online - the hybrid learning environment of today.
His wacky mixture of craft a learning is the background for advanced ideas communications and writing for artists wishing to publicise their work and use video. 20 years on the road interviewing and scripting location programmes.
