Hatfield Festival: 3-18 June 2017

The Hatfield Festival returns for 2017 (3-18 June), and will see over 80 events and activities taking place across Hatfield.

Co-ordinated by Hatfield Town Council, the Festival opens with Hatfield House’s Food Festival (2-4 June), featuring up to 150 exhibitors including local producers and artisan food and drink. Plus celebrity chef demonstrations including Rosemary Shrager (Sunday), The Baker Brothers (Fri & Sat) and Paul Jagger of the Great British Bake Off.

The Festival fortnight will see an eclectic programme of events and activities taking place including; live music, exhibitions, talks, walks, demonstrations, screenings, and workshops, plus Steven’s Fun Fair will be holding a special Star Wars meet and greet on Birchwood Playing Field. Free tasters will be available in a range of activities and hobbies, such as Fly-Dressing, Scottish Dancing, Karate, Aerobics, Street Dance, Jazzercise, Pilates, Yoga, and much more.

Highlights of the Festival include; Harriet Riddell’s exhibition InStitchYou comes to Hatfield, which will be displayed in the Chapman Gallery at the University of Hertfordshire until 10 June; a talk by de Havilland Aircraft Museum’s new curator at Hatfield Library on 6 June, and an opportunity to ring the bells of the historic St Etheldreda’s Church on 10 June. 

In the second week, further highlights include; a pet blessing service at St John’s Church on 11 June; a talk by Janet Robinson (nee Tingey) about her family history in Hatfield, hosted by Hatfield Local History Society on 12 June; and Space is Big, an interactive talk by space expert Jerry Stone on 16 June.

Closing the Festival, will be a weekend of live music, starting with Hatfield Town Council’s Music Festival on Saturday 17 June headlined by A Century of Soul, followed by the de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra performing Mozart, Strauss, and Mahler on Sunday 18 June at The Weston Auditorium.

Councillor James Broach, Mayor of Hatfield said “The Festival is just a snapshot of what you can see and do in Hatfield throughout the year, and shows what a vibrant and interesting place it is to live and work in.”
