Calm Seas and Ancient Trees
An exhibition of photography by Steve Oggelsby.
Steve Ogglesby is fascinated by the stories that can be told and the memories and emotions evoked through photographic imagery. This body of work focuses on timeless and unusual images of the woodlands and coastline of south Devon where human presence is invisible.
"Landscape photography is my passion. The ever-changing seasons, light and weather of our natural environment are endlessly fascinating and combine to create a continually evolving palette of texture and colour for my photography. Whether I'm on a beach at sunrise or sheltering from the elements on the rugged tors of Dartmoor at sunset, the landscape always has a story to tell.
As with books, not all stories are happy ones. Much of our landscape has been harmed by our presence. There are many areas of South Devon, however, where the natural landscape is relatively unspoilt and I love nothing more than finding and capturing shots of our coastline, moorland and ancient woodlands where there is little or, even better, no sign of our existence. To be able to find a spot where I can create a ‘timeless’ image that could have been taken either yesterday or thousands of years ago is something I find both exciting and rewarding. The stories of our environment are varied but my aim is to let my photography celebrate that variety and highlight the beauty and drama of this amazing area in the hope that we can preserve it the way it deserves."
Open 10 am - 5 pm Monday - Saturday and 10 am - 4 pm Sundays.
