Returning to the Future

An exhibition of paintings by Sarah Harcus and ceramics by Susan Luker

Sarah Harcus responds to her surroundings, describing “the timelessness and rhythms” of the land and seascapes, and the effects of the light on the contours and patterns of land and water. Firmly based in recognizable landscapes, her work is becoming increasingly gestural, aided by the immediacy of combining pastels with watercolour and acrylic paints.

Susan Luker is well known for her striking raku ceramic work, and she has recently developed a new body of decorative stoneware ceramics with a more personal response to her environment and surroundings in the Devon landscape. After drawing and sketching ideas for new pieces, she treats the flat ceramic surface as her canvas.
