Island Artist - Paintings by Emma Carter
A childhood of holidays spent on Burgh Island led Emma Carter to settle in South Devon as an adult. Fresh from a fine art degree in London and inspired by travels around the world, she set up her studio in Paignton and allowed the surrounding land and seascapes to seep into her paintings. Taking a delight in the subtle changes of the ocean, she explores the qualities of light, reflection and atmosphere in her calm, restful paintings.
In contrast, Emma also shows a new collection of large abstract paintings, which she describes as 'explosions of colour'.
She picks out Turner, Joan Eardley, Jackson Pollock and Kurt Jackson as particular influences in the development of her work.
Since 1996 Emma has exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the UK, and her works are held in private and corporate collections worldwide.
