Essence

Essence

Forging their careers in the fields of glass, ceramics and photography, three recent graduates of Plymouth College of Art return to Harbour House with a fresh, bright exhibition of new work.

Bethany Antliff’s work quietly connects us to what matters, to the natural world and our connection with it. In her glass and ceramic work she explores her concern and questioning for human consumption and the damage it causes to habitats and ecosystems, taking inspiration from symbiotic relationships in nature. She hopes to inspire admiration and consideration for the natural world within our everyday lives, subtly reminding us how to treat our planet and live more harmoniously with all others who inhabit it.

Alice Antliff is driven to highlight environmental issues such as the decline in the bee population and the increase in plastic pollution. Drawing on the delicate and fragile qualities in nature, her ceramics, fabrics and glass engravings are often intricate and detailed, a hopeful voice to encourage an emotional connection and enquiry. Questioning her own impact on the environment, Alice uses recycled materials where possible.

Lucien Harris is an award winning nature photographer who brings colourful miniature creatures to life, from city gardens to the moorlands of Dartmoor, allowing us to witness a remarkable biodiversity not usually seen. In this exhibition he will also exhibit photographs of foreign macro wildlife and the landscapes they inhabit.
