Hertfordshire VE Day Online Exhibition

Hertfordshire VE Day Online Exhibition

To mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies (HALS) has launched a new online exhibition on the county's community archive website, Herts Memories (www.hertsmemories.org.uk). You can discover how the happy news was presented and the many ways in which local people celebrated.

You can add family memories and pictures of VE Day, or more generally of the Home Front in Hertfordshire, by clicking on the Get Involved button on the home page.

Throughout 08 May, and as part of the exhibition, we will be releasing special audio recordings reflecting different aspects of life on the Home Front in Hertfordshire. These will include letters from a young man in the Home Guard to his fiancée, the unexpected experiences of an evacuee host and the hilarious story of a pair of 'lumberjills' in charge of a huge lorry, but no idea how to drive it!

Follow HALS on twitter (@hertsarchives) to hear when the recordings go live.
