Thor's Oak, Dartmoor
This forms part of a series of painting about Oak trees on Dartmoor. The Work was born out of the reading of "The Golden Bough" by Sir James Frazier.
I wanted to explore our relationship with oak trees in the modern age. These first works are about forgotton pasts relationships with oaks. The Trees a along, naked and past by. The work on the painting suface is a kind of paint alchemy using modern paints and varnishes which were set on fire. This process of painting was inspired by fire festivals that in the past centered around large oaks.
