Project Coordinator for Squatlife

Project Coordinator for Squatlife

Following a successful bid for Heritage Lottery Funding we are seeking to appoint a coordinator for this exciting project.
You will act as the main co-ordinator for the day-to-day delivery of ‘Squatlife’ with responsibility for managing the agreed timetable and ensuring set objectives are met and the project is within budget. The post holder will be the main liaison for the project between the Project Leaders, the Steering Group, partners and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project will feature an exhibition of photographs from the 1980’s by Dave Kotula of various squatted premises in the district and the stories of those that used them. With the support of volunteers the exhibition will be contrasted with a view of Victorian (and pre-Victorian) workhouses and historical attitudes to homelessness, all within the new St Albans Museum and Gallery. Cardboard Citizens Theatre Group will work with homeless or recently homeless residents from the district to create a piece to be performed at the Abbey Theatre whilst a professional photographer will work with attenders of Herts Young Homeless to capture snapshots of their lives. The exhibition will run from Saturday July 14 this year.
The project will engage young people in the curation process as well as working with volunteers from St Albans & Hertfordshire Archaeological & Architectural Society to develop a historical timeline. Working with heritage professionals from St Albans Museum Service Squatlife will help participants and visitors gain a deeper insight into this previously under-researched part of their history, as well as providing homeless and recently homeless participants with accredited (Pearl) training and the opportunity to share their experience.
