Artists Statement - Francesca Wyllie

My primary area of interest began with sculpting in steel. I was introduced to blacksmithing and metal working techniques whilst studying for a degree in sculpture in the late 80‘s. Over the years my work has developed to include other metals and materials such as glass, mosaic, cement and wood. I now spend most of my time painting in oils and acrylics. I have been inspired by travels to Morocco, Andalucia in Spain and the Dordogne region of France as well as closer to home in the areas around Torbay and the South Hams.

Many sculpture projects have been influenced by a love of plants, trees, organic forms, animals, people, stories, my own drawings and random ideas. When starting a new sculpture I am often unaware of where it will lead. The making process causes accidental elements to influence the direction of the piece and if not resolved often creates the drive to make the next sculpture.

Recently, I have been painting rather quirky pet portraits. Using historical paintings as inspiration to express the personality of the pet. I work to commission and also sell original paintings and limited edition giclee prints.

Painting and Drawing tuition is available for individuals, small groups on request.
I also offer Digital Painting and Drawing tuition using the Artrage App on either IPad or Desktop.
Workshops can be arranged on location on my vintage boat in Dartmouth or at your home.
