Inside Out

Three established Southwest artists - Emma Carter, Phil Dixon and Christine Sweetman are due to launch an exciting and stimulating new touring show entitled ‘Inside Out’ at Torre Abbey in September 2009. Torre Abbey has recently been in the spotlight for exhibiting Anthony Gormley's 'Field for the British Isles'.
Whilst leading a new movement in art through installation, performance and sculptural based work their aim is to push their boundaries as artists and explore new themes. The ethos will be to externalise revelations in a cerebral format and the term ‘Aesthetic Conceptualists’ has been used to describe their practice - a term coined by the ‘Inside Out’ group and one that they are keen to share. It refers to their focus on producing work based strongly on a theme or idea whilst still aiming to show an aesthetic form.
With a focus on exploring emotions, relationships with self, others and our environment, the 'Inside Out' group invite the audience to engage in the work and to question their personal responses to the pieces. Having worked as professional artists for the past two decades, the ‘Inside 0ut’ team are keen to help propel an emerging creative boom in the Southwest and to then advertise this cultural climate on a wider stage.
