A Dartmoor Arts Project Event
Dartmoor Arts Project in collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW) are very pleased to present an artist's talk by sculptor David Nash. This talk marks the first in a series of David Nash events in Devon during April-September 2011.
David Nash is Britain’s most important contemporary sculptor in wood, a material in which he has worked for over 40 years. He not only carves wood, largely from fallen trees, with chain and milling saws - skills that he has perfected over the years - but he also creates sculptures from growing saplings, cutting and training them into domes or ladders. His famous Ash Dome planted in 1977, is now a mature dome centred on a plot of woodland in North Wales. His works convey a wealth of expression, from enormous force to exquisite delicacy, produced by his unique use of chainsaw and charring as well as natural drying. Nash has exhibited all over the world in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions and currently has a major retrospective at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
