Dartmoor Arts Summer School Events Week 25-30 July
A week of evening events open to the public including artists talks, film screenings, discussion and live music at the Drewe Arms, Drewsteignton. All welcome, no need to book, cost £5 per event. The evenings are part of the Dartmoor Arts 2010 summer school programme.
Sunday 25 July, 7.30pm: Desert Island Images.
The ever popular Desert Island Images...this year the panel includes artists Rupert Johnstone, David Brampton-Greene, Jackie Abey and Marcus Vergette. Find out about the art works these castaways would take to a desert island and what has inspired them as artists.
Monday 26 July, 8pm: Artist's Talk by Daniel Hunt, Professor of Sculpture at Kansas State University. Daniel is teaching the awesome iron casting course at Dartmoor Arts Summer School this year.
Tuesday 27th July, 8pm: Artist's Talk by Tim Knowles.
Artist Tim Knowles lives and works in London. His work is exhibited widely both in the UK and internationally, recent shows include; Wanderlust a solo exhibition curated by Paula Orrell at Plymouth Arts Centre [2009] and Unpredictable forms of Sound and Motion Bitforms Gallery, New York [2009]. Knowles has produced a number of public works including Searchlight #1 for the Economist Plaza in 2008 and Windbarbs [2009] for Plymouth Hoe.
Wednesday 28th July, 7:30pm: Artist's talk by Kate Davis
Born in New Zealand in 1977, Kate Davis studied at Glasgow School of Art where she is now a part-time lecturer in the Painting and Printmaking Department. Working across a range of media, with the consistent presence of drawing, Davis has had several international solo shows, including Kunsthalle Basel (2006), Art Now, Tate Britain (2007), Galerie Kamm, Berlin (2007).
Wednesday 28th July, 9pm: Music from Pavlov.
Pavlov draws its music from a rich variety of influences: traditional English song, grooves from Mali and contemporary jazz.
Thursday 29th July, 8pm: Piers Taylor – People, Places, Process.
Architect Piers Taylor will talk about the Studio in the Woods, which has been running since 2006, which is concerned with the testing of ideas through making at 1:1. He is currently working on the infamous ‘cheesegrater’ site in Leadenhall (the site of the postponed Richard Rogers designed building) and is proposing a city farm where city workers can grow their own produce.
Friday 30th July, 7pm: Documentary films by the Dartmoor Arts 2010 Film students
A special screening of films that have been shot and produced during the summer school week.
Friday 30th July, 8pm: Music with The Jive Jacks
The Jive Jacks are a Devon-based 6-piece band playing a mixture of Jazz, Swing, Soul, Rock n Roll and Latin.
