The election of Tracy Brabin as Mayor of West Yorkshire, supported by a £1.8bn devolution deal, has brought culture, heritage and the creative industries to the forefront of the Combined Authority’s policy agenda.

The Mayor has pledged to lead a Creative New Deal for West Yorkshire and an exceptional individual, with proven skills in leading partnerships, who can work across the region to support and help deliver the Mayor’s ambition is now being sought.

The Role

The skills and experience of our policy team reflects the Combined Authority’s broad and diverse policy agenda, with most colleagues having a specialism in one or more of these topics or a passion for strategy. This role has a specific focus on culture and heritage.

You will work with senior managers, the Combined Authority, stakeholders, partners and other policy leads to:

Lead work with the Mayor and other strategic partners to develop and drive forward an ambitious Creative New Deal that delivers jobs, economic opportunities, builds communities and capitalises on the creativity of West Yorkshire.
Develop a West Yorkshire Cultural Framework that exploits the full potential of culture and underpins an innovative new approach to partnership working with local authorities, the culture heritage and sport sectors and cultural funding bodies.
Maximise the impact culture and creative industries can have on West Yorkshire’s economic recovery and growth, including leading the delivery of relevant aspects of the Economic Recovery Plan.
Lead the development of a pipeline of investment-ready programmes linked to the Cultural Framework.
Lead thinking on how culture and heritage can make a positive difference to our people and places across the Strategic Economic Framework policy agenda. This could include its role in revitalising our town centres, tackling the climate emergency, delivering inclusive growth, or any other area where positive change can be delivered through a focus on culture and heritage.
