Pontefract Liquorice Festival Creative Commission

Pontefract Liquorice Festival Creative Commission

Wakefield Council are looking for an artist or group to deliver a workshop and art installation inspired by Liquorice as part of their July 9-10 Liquorice Festival in Pontefract.

The Pontefract Liquorice Festival (PLF) returns on Saturday 9 July (community fun day) and Sunday 10 July (main day) July 2022. As part of preparations for this landmark event Wakefield Council are seeking responses to a creative commission to form part of their programming.

The Pontefract Liquorice Festival celebrates Pontefract’s historic link with liquorice and is an important event for local residents and visitors alike, with a particular emphasis on providing an exciting and memorable weekend for families.

The festival this year will feature street entertainment, music and an extensive street market alongside other opportunities for visitors and locals to discover about heritage and magic of liquorice, its local importance and global reach, as well as plenty of chances to taste this local delicacy.

Creative Commissions
Wakefield Council are seeking responses to a liquorice-inspired Creative Commission to support the 2022 Pontefract Liquorice Festival. Your response should incorporate two elements of the commission:

1) A free, participatory family workshop to be delivered onsite at PLF’s community fun day on Saturday 9th July, during which the community will be invited to take part in the creation/development of a liquorice-themed or liquorice-inspired installation.

2) For this temporary installation to be displayed during the festival’s main day to delight festival visitors on Sunday

Wakefield Council are keen to involve artists, producers, makers and creatives in the delivery of this element of the festival and want to showcase the creativity and ingenuity of the Wakefield and wider West Yorkshire creative sector.

Fees
Up to £5,000 inclusive of all materials for both the workshops and installation
