CONNECT workshop for Creatives: Defining Your Why

As professionals or freelancers – our roles, projects and portfolio of work can be so varied and so diverse; like a beautiful pick and mix – but it can be difficult to know where to start when you’re in a situation and have to tell someone else what you do and coherently explain the breadth. And yet, it’s an important part of your personal brand, funding applications, job applications, marketing yourself, your social media, networking, project pitching etc.

This 2-hour 15minutes participatory Zoom (with time for questions) session led by Mortal Fools will focus on developing your elevator pitch – it will get you thinking about who you are, what you do, your personal values, what you love about what you do and how to effectively communicate that in a few lines.

In this session:

You will start to formulate a clearer articulation of your purpose within your work – the WHY you do what you do and passion for your work.

You will consider WHY, HOW and WHAT your professional work is and how to use this structure to inform your personal communication strategy as a freelancer/professional.
Practical tools to develop your confidence in self-promotion – including delivering your elevator pitch in a safe space with others.

Collective discussion about why it’s sometimes hard to effectively communicate what we do and the impact of the use of language.

Post workshop – all participants will receive workshop notes with resources highlighted and you will get access to a Mortal Fools Facebook group, so you can ask questions and of course, offer each other peer to peer support and advice.

Mortal Fools is a multi award-winning theatre, drama and creative learning charity. CONNECT is their unique training and professional development programme for organisations and individuals that uses practical training to help people to grow and thrive.

Suitable for: Artists and creatives in the Arts and Culture sector working in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Please note, we charge a fully refundable deposit to encourage attendance. Refunds will be sent to attendees within 36 hours of the event/course end date. If you are unable to attend, please let us know at least 2 days before the event/course start date. Those who fail to cancel their ticket or attend will forfeit their deposit.
