Bradford Metropolitan District Council is seeking a dynamic Cultural Programme & Events Manager to lead on the council’s strategic investments in commissioning, co-commissioning and partnering to develop and deliver a year-round calendar of exceptional events, festivals and activities across the district.
Bradford is the sixth largest city in the UK but Bradford is more than a city. It is a Metropolitan District that thrives on diversity – of landscape, of commerce, of heritage and, most importantly of people and communities. From Ilkley to Keighley, from Shipley to the City Centre and out to the industrial hub of the M62, Bradford is one of the most important economic and cultural engines of the North. It’s a city that has produced cultural giants in literature, art and film, and has a strong tradition of innovation that persists today, whether that be social change or colour technology.
This is Bronte country, birthplace of David Hockney, Zayn Malik, the Black Dyke Mills Band and more recently Bad Boy Chiller Crew, this is home to the greatest curries in Britain and the birthplace of free school meals.
We’re excited and optimistic about the future, the district is experiencing a creative renaissance, driven by an ambitious 10-year culture led regeneration plan that is already inspiring its creative sector and building strong cross-sector partnerships.
During the last year Bradford has responded to the changes brought by Covid, we have found new ways of working and the district is now in a strong position to restart its creative renewal. Culture is at the heart of our Economic Recovery Plan.
This is an exciting time to be working in Bradford. Winning national funds to develop Bradford Live a new music venue being created in a vast former Odeon cinema in the heart of the city and is also one of the two national pilots for Arts Council England’s Producing Hub.
Bradford has launched a bid to be UK City of Culture in 2025 as part of a far-reaching set of cultural plans to reposition Bradford. The Cultural Place Partnership will be launching the Bradford Districts new 10 year cultural strategy on the 20th
May 2021 ‘Culture is Our Plan. This is an exciting and unique time to consider joining a very fast paced, responsive and dynamic team.
This role will provide the opportunity for someone to shape and drive forward a new approach to programme and events working with external partners. To set and deliver against targets for engagement and leveraged in new investment to coordinate the Council’s resources and procedures to enable the creation of events to be as seamless a process as possible for independent producers and co-promoters, subsidised and commercial. To be an expert on the availability of sites for cultural use and relationships with property and land owners and developers.
To contribute to the delivery of Culture is our Plan and to advocate for the value of culture among key stakeholders, council services and partner agencies and be an ambassador for the values, goals and objectives of the council at local, regional and national level.
