There are six main groups, with additional projects undertaken regularly.

These are:
County Youth Orchestra
Hertfordshire Schools' Symphony Orchestra
Hertfordshire Wind Sinfonia
County Youth Brass
County Youth Choir
Hertfordshire Youth Jazz Ensemble

The groups each meet three times a year for intensive courses, from one day workshops to 6 day courses which culminate in exciting performances at high-profile venues.

The days and courses are led by teams of professional conductors and sectional coaches from within Hertfordshire Music Service and today's top orchestras. The groups perform a variety of challenging, often large scale repertoire such as Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring and Schoenberg's Gurre-Lieder. Proects include professional quality recordings, international tours, opportunities to perform concertos, premieres of new works and collaborative projects with other groups.

The groups perform regularly in prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy of Music, the Cathedral & Abbey Church of St. Alban, Watford Colosseum and the Royal Albert Hall.
