Cookin' with Ideas

Cookin' with Ideas Starting January 2014

Cookin’ with ideas, delivering locally sourced fresh talent to the workplace.

Cookin’ with Ideas delivered in partnership with KEITS Training Services Ltd is a unique new Traineeship programme, which will see 12 motivated young people aged 16-23 developing the skills needed to get a foot in the kitchen door for a career in catering and hospitality.

Over 12 weeks candidates will be inspired about the industry by learning to cook with professional chefs, travelling to award winning food locations, undertaking high quality work placements with successful local businesses, gaining industry recognised qualifications and recording their whole experience on a tablet device.

The twelve week programme has been designed with local employers to exactly meet their needs. Programme Manager, Matt Bean says “As a local street food employer myself, I completely understand the need for businesses to find employees who are as excited and passionate about food as we are. This programmme is designed to find motivated, hardworking individuals who want to get their career started in hospitality and catering. What could be more exciting than that!”

The programme will be delivered in a variety of commercial environments across Hitchin turning bars and barns into classrooms for the day and will include young people working on real employer projects, weekly training days with qualified chefs and individual work placements in a thriving local independent business. Fused into the programme are a series of exciting trips ranging from local farmers and suppliers, artisan producers, food manufacturers and buzzing street food markets. Participants will be able to experience every step in the food chain in the trade they wish to follow and ultimately give them more knowledge and confidence in pursuing employment or an Apprenticeship in the chosen sector.

Matt adds, “What makes Cookin’ with Ideas unique is that all of the employers involved have had an input into the design of the programme. At the end of the programme every candidate will be given a reference and an interview. The aim is to help you to find a job and get your career started.”

Cookin’ with Ideas candidates will also cook for local charities and organisations that will go towards building a solid portfolio over the twelve weeks to ensure they have a reminder of their positive experience to be able to pass on in interview and engagement with future employers or influences.

The next programme starts on Monday 27th January. To register your interest and to find out more please visit www.cookinwithideas.com
