Sacred Spaces Sculpture Exhibition
An exhibition of sculpture can be seen this May, at Buckfast Abbey in South Devon. The Abbey is situated just a few miles off the A38 and offers free parking and a wealth of interest for the whole family.
The exhibition is entitled ‘Sacred Spaces’ and has been organised by Dartmouth Contemporary Arts (DCA) and showcases ten local artists. It runs from Sunday 1st May 2011 to Tuesday 10th May 2011 in the Medieval Hall and some outdoor sculpture can be seen for 6 months.
On entering, visitors can relax in the calming atmosphere. They can enjoy wandering around large flat manicured lawns that are interconnected by pathways, which lead into the more intimate, smaller apothecary and pungent lavender gardens.
Refreshments can be taken in a purpose built restaurant and on a contemporary designed wooden terrace. From there, special vistas surrounding the Abbey are on view, where large and intimate spaces are an invitation to display sculpture.
The Medieval Hall sited next to the bookshop has been recently restored. The white alcoved walls, magnificent wooden beamed ceiling, wooden and stone floors lend themselves perfectly to exhibition space. The exterior grass and stone flags are also ideal for displaying sculpture. All are surrounded by atmospheric architecture.
DCA is very grateful to the monks at the Abbey for allowing them to organise this event and hope that it will become part of their calendar for future years.
