Art in the Sun
The visuals arts encompass a great many practices and numerous artists can work in all sorts of styles and genres. Five such artists are showing off their varied talents at a beautiful rural setting just outside Newton Abbot for ‘Art in the Sun’ this August.
Bob Bruce, originally a civil engineer now paints in contrasting styles, from dreamy impressionist landscapes to his exceptionally precise ‘Tumbling Blocks’ series.
Luci Coles’ practice is constantly changing, her sculptures involve stonework, welding and found objects, pictures in paint, pencil, varnish and woodcarving, and jewellery in copper, silver and stone all have a fluid, organic sensibility.
Using photography to create relationships with the ever changing environment and its people, Harbz also works with paint, mixed media, graphic design, digital media and is a master pumpkin carver.
Glass artist Amy MaCarthy incorporates printing techniques, warm glass techniques, photographic images, acid etching, casting, jewellery, mosaic and glass painting into her leaded and sculptural work.
Ben Yates’ ultra-modern styles vary from mounting photographic prints in 3 dimensions to creating LED-lit cityscapes from recycled computer circuitry inside bespoke coffee tables.
The exhibition spaces range from a 19th century barn, a darkened studio and a beautiful woodland sculpture trail. Art in the Sun is free and will delight and amaze visitors of all ages. Mallands Barn is just off the A383 outside Newton Abbot in the direction of Ashburton
