This workshop will show you how to take a planned approach to increasing visitor numbers and broadening your reach. Using interactive exercises Ben will guide you through the visitor development planning process including; understanding your visitors; qualitative and quantitative research; setting objectives; writing an effective action plan.

Trainer: Ben Gammon, Interpretation & audience research consultant

Ben Gammon is an expert on visitor research, audience development and informal learning having worked for over 20 years in the museum, arts and heritage sectors. He has extensive experience of working with sponsors, exhibition designers, curators, artists, scientists and museum staff.

As Head of Visitor Research and then Head of Learning & Audience Development at the Science Museum, London, Ben established one of the UK’s leading centres for audience research, working on major exhibitions projects as well as setting up audience profiling, visitor consultation panels and innovative approaches to training staff in ‘visitor awareness’.

As a free-lance consultant Ben has worked for a wide range of museums, art galleries, heritage organisations and learned societies, both in the UK and abroad. He has been involved in audience development for new museums and the production of funding bids for new exhibitions, websites and outreach programmes. Drawing upon his wide ranging experience Ben has developed an innovative portfolio of training courses covering audience development, audience research, interpretive planning, exhibition development and informal learning.
