Graham Boyd is primarily fascinated and excited by light and the expressive properties of paint…

"In my early years I experienced the vastness and drama of the Central African landscape and later that of North America. This led me into abstraction with added influences coming from music and poetry. As in Jazz I have learnt to work fast and instinctively, improvising and taking risks. Painting to me is about paradox and enigma, It is very hard to decode what goes on between the hand, eye and brain in the creative process. One has to locate oneself just beyond logic and to remain true to your innerself".
Returning to the UK in the mid fifties, he worked and lived in Bushey before moving out to Chipperfield, painting in his garden studio since 1967.

He became Head of Painting at the Herfordshire College of Art and Design in 1976 and led in the development of the Country's first BA Hons. Fine Art Degree Course retiring in 1993, to paint full time.
