Choreographers wanted for Dance Springs 2015

Choreographers wanted for Dance Springs 2015

Dance Springs is a new dance platform hosted by UHArts at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The event aims to promote the work of new, emerging companies and choreographers within the Hertfordshire area. The platform also aims to bring a new audience to the University’s Weston Auditorium Theatre run by UHArts (University of Hertfordshire Arts www.herts.ac.uk/artsandgalleries). The Weston Auditorium is an excellent venue, fully equipped with the latest technical support facilities including full lighting rig, projector, large tiered seating area and PA.

This year’s programme at UHArts corresponds to the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One. The Great War brought much loss to millions of people, emotionally, physically and geographically. However, the war also brought the sense of unity and spirit seeing many people pull together collectively to help in any way they could enabling many to find an inner strength and form lasting relationships. This years Dance Springs will therefore be based around the theme of ‘Love, Lost and Found’

Dance Springs is looking for four choreographers and/or companies to showcase their work at Dance Springs 2015 on Saturday 21st February 2015. The work must be no longer than 20 minutes in length and have a strong emphasis on this years theme: ‘Love, Lost and Found’. The theme can be interpreted freely and does not need to be based around WWI. The choreography proposed may be a new work or a development of a previous work. The work can be in any dance genre. Priority will be given to local artists, however artist from outside the Hertfordshire region will still be considered.

In addition to the performance date, each artist is expected to invest at least six hours of rehearsal time at the Weston Auditorium, Hatfield. This time can be used to create, rehearse and/or work with staff at UHArts on request and subject to availability. This time will be taken in two three-hour slots on the dates below.

Friday 16th January 2015
Friday 23rd January 2015
Monday 26th January 2015
Friday 30th January 2015

In addition, all companies and/or choreographers must be available between 16th – 20th February 2015 for a technical rehearsal.

Each choreographer/ company will be paid £350 plus a split on the box office once the required financial target has been achieved as stipulated by UHArts. (Information on which will be provided to those dance artists/ companies selected).

One of the aims of this showcase is to bring new audiences to The Weston Auditorium and UHArts in Hatfield and so the artists selected must be invested in promoting and marketing their own work. The artists must therefore demonstrate how they anticipate to bring an audience to Dance Springs and provide an estimate number of audience members they realistically expect to be able to bring. As part of the agreement to present work for UHArts, each company must have public liability insurance. Details of how to acquire this can be given from the email provided.

To apply: Please visit the Dance Springs webpage and complete the application form. Please send your completed application form and an up to date CV of the primary choreographer/s to the email address below. If you are applying as a company please nominate a member of the company as the primary contact. Please also supply a link to your recent work.

Deadline: Friday 10th October 2014 17:00. Successful applicants will be informed shortly after this date. Applications should be returned to a.l.watson@herts.ac.uk
